19th C Armenian Blanket.
Armenian blankets are flat-woven pieces with an embroidered pattern. Unlike the classic Verneh executed in the Soumak technique, they are constructed using the Palas weave with the so-called Holbein stitch, an extremely fine stitch which produced rugs that the great painter was fond of depicting in his paintings.
A similar blanket is shown in the book “Caucasian Carpets” by Gans-Ruedin
